Cheese Cake
History
The history of the cheese cake dates back to a Greek physician named Aegimus who wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes. Back then, the cheesecake was already a popular dish in ancient Greece, even before the Roman's adoption of it after the conquest of Greece. It is not clear who made the first cheesecake. Currently there are also many countries that have developed their own variation of the cheesecake, each suiting their needs. Now there is even an unofficial National Cheesecake Day celebrated by the United States on July the 30th.
Characteristics
The cheesecake is as delightful and sweet as ice cream as it is a cake. Hence the cheesecake is also a very fitting dessert, mainly consisting of a topping made of fresh cheese. The cheesecake may either be baked or unbaked, either way each method will result in a very different cheesecake. Along with other cakes, cheesecakes may be flavored and be topped with everything from fruits, nuts, to fruit sauce and chocolate. As such there are many different cheesecakes with many different tastes, such as strawberry and toffee.
